Mehndi Designs and the Muslim Culture

Unlike in Western Culture, Muslims commonly wear mehndi designs as a way of dressing up for holy days and special occasions.  Usually, it is the women in Muslim culture who wear these ornate and beautiful designs.  It is not unusual for Muslim women to have temporary tattoos on their hands, forearms, shins, and feet.

However, there may be times when men, too, apply mehndi designs, such as at their weddings.  During weddings, grooms are known to wear designs on their hands and feet.  Brides, too, wear henna designs, and are expected to have their future husbands names incorporated into the designs.  This shows that they are good wives who will follow their husbands wills.
